Game fishing is a big deal in Koh Samui and Thailand as a whole. With miles of coastline on the huge body of ocean that is the Gulf of Thailand, fishing has long been a major occupation and its nutrient rich ecosystem means there’s unrivalled number of different species swimming around and huge fish to be sought after.
Your big game fishing trip begins first thing in the morning when you are collected from your accommodation and taken straight to the pier in the south of Samui. You’ll board a traditional wooden Thai fishing boat, which makes a worthy photo opportunity in itself!
Once aboard you can just sit back and relax as the captain sets sail to the fishing grounds around Koh Tan, Koh Mudsum and Koh Rap, the location of which is a closely guarded secret only known among the most experienced local fishermen.
Don’t worry if you didn’t bring your tackle with you. Our big game tours supply you with everything you need for a great day’s fishing, including rods, lines, trawling gear, fresh bait and lures.
The possibilities are endless when it comes to the different types of fish and other marine life that you could encounter while you are fishing around Koh Samui. Many who have embarked on this expedition have bagged themselves barracuda, cobia, mackerel, sailfish, snapper, grouper, trevally and even shark!
Every one of the traditional Thai fishing boats have fresh water and toilet facilities on board, and offer some shade if you want it or you can use this time to work on your tan as you dream about catching the big one, or maybe even the one that got away.
On your big game fishing trip you will be taken to Koh Tan and Koh Mudsum, depending on the weather conditions on the day. There the beaches are just as white and sandy and the water is crystal clear.
At lunch time. And if you’ve been lucky enough to catch anything before lunch, you can throw your fresh catch straight on the BBQ – don’t worry if you didn’t, the staff will have some back-up fish just in case :).
We are sure you’ll agree, big game fishing in Koh Samui sounds like a great day out for you and your party. You can have a relaxing day on the ocean, learn a new skill and catch your own lunch all in one day.
