The Seatran ferry leaves from Big Buddha pier in Bangrak, in the north east of Koh Samui. The pier is conveniently close the airport and the closest to Chaweng. The journey time is 30 minutes. Seatran ferry boats have plenty of seating, air conditioning inside the cabin and a large open sun deck. There are also toilet facilities and a reasonably priced snack shop.
The Lomprayah Catamaran ferry from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan takes just 20 minutes from the pier in Maenam, situated in the middle of Koh Samui’s northern coastline. Professionally operated, the boats are well maintained, have air conditioning and lots of seating. Toilet facilities and shop to buy drinks and snacks are also on board.
The Haad Rin Queen leaves from Sunset pier in the north east of Koh Samui, just a little further along from the Big Buddha pier, so it’s ideally situated close to the airport and Chaweng. Heading to a different pier to the other ferries, this service is popular with backpackers and travelers seeking out the infamous Full Moon Party. The boat is slow, taking around an hour but the tickets are cheap and you are taken directly to Haad Rin, so a taxi or Songtaew isn’t required when you arrive.
